The Top 10 Animated Mice List (Cartoons)

Greetings, and welcome to the list of The Top 10 Animated Mice. How does a mouse get on this list? Various ways, although no computer animated mouse was even considered. The mouse can be funny. Perhaps the mouse has a lot of depth in terms of character & emotion. Was the mouse a trailblazer? Originality is also important. Who will be the number one mouse?

NUMBER TEN… we begin our countdown with…

Cinderella - Gus Jac and other Mice

10. Gus

Jaq and Gus are two of the tiny heroes in Cinderella, and Gus certainly is the comic relief. Gus is second from the left, short, with the green hat. Gus is from a long, loooong time ago. And he makes the list not just because he is awesome, but he is one of the first animal sidekicks featured in a Disney movie. Gus’ comedic timing and heroic charm ring true today as much as they did decades ago. In addition, being a trailblazer for Disney carries a lot of weight… even for a little mouse.

NUMBER NINE

9. Gadget Hackwrench

The mechanical genius and love interest of Chip and Dale (Rescue Rangers). Gadget presented a female role model who was intelligent and a mechanic. Sure, not all of her creations work perfectly… but she’s still a genius… and a pretty cool inspiration for little girls.

NUMBER EIGHT

The Delivery Boy

8. Minnie Mouse

She’s dating Mickey Mouse, the most iconic mouse in the history of animation. So, yeah, she made the list. If Mickey is the king of the Magic Kingdom, then she is the queen.

Although, the last I heard… they were still only dating. I’m not putting pressure on Mickey to pop the question… but 90-something years is a long courtship little dude.

NUMBER SEVEN

Mighty Mouse #1 - Comic Book Cover

7. Mighty Mouse

“what a mouse…”

“WHAT A MOUSE!!”

A tiny version of Superman who can certainly bring the thunder of justice, Mighty Mouse protected mice everywhere from the feline terrors lurking in the night. How many mice can pick up a car? See, little guys really can make a difference.

NUMBER SIX

6. Jerry

In 2000, Time named Tom and Jerry one of the greatest television shows of all time. Tom chases Jerry. A simple formula with some unexpected comedic timing that made it a very fun show. In addition, they later became friends and worked together against common enemies.

NUMBER FIVE & NUMBER FOUR

5. Pinky

Narf!

4. Brain (a.k.a., the Brain)

***

THE BRAIN: Pinky, are you pondering what I’m pondering?

PINKY: I think so, Brain, but if they called them “sad meals” no one would buy them.

***

THE BRAIN: Pinky, are you pondering what I’m pondering?

PINKY: I think so Brain… but do I really need 2 tongues?

Pinky and the Brain, forever on the cusp of world domination yet just missing every single time. If Mighty Mouse was a tiny Superman, Pinky and the Brain are a tiny Igor and Lex Luthor… but with more charm and wit. Sometimes I would watch Animaniacs HOPING to see a Pinky and the Brain short. These two genetically altered lab mice are two of the most interesting cartoon characters ever created, and became so popular on Animaniacs that they got their own show. With Steven Spielberg producing, Pinky and the Brain are a dynamic duo!

*Side note, Pinky and the Brain are my favorite mice on this list!*

NUMBER THREE

3. Mrs. Brisby

Mrs. Brisby, the widowed spouse of the late Jonathan Brisby, who was killed while attempting to drug Dragon, the cat that belongs to Farmer Fitzgibbons and his family. Mrs. Brisby is a brown-tan colored field mouse, she has blue eyes and wears a red cloak which is tied around her neck. She lives in a partially underground cinder block on the Ftizgibbon’s farm with her four children Martin, Teresa, Cynthia and Timothy. Mrs. Brisby has a heart of pure gold. She is extrremely loving and kind, even to those who are annoying and treat her with hostility, not even Jenner can fade her modesty.

Mrs. Brisby has no super powers but does have a tremendous amount of will and courage for such a small animal. She faces creatures and obstacles that would normally get a regular mouse killed, even knowing this, she still pursues any solution to save her family from certain death. Mrs. Brisby is a very believable character, she gets injured, extremely frightened and becomes very stressed at times. She puts so much emotional fatigue upon herself out of love, just to save her family, to her, love is and will always be the key. —Source: IMDB

NUMBER TWO, OUR RUNNER-UP FOR TOP MOUSE IS…

Mickey's Choo-Choo
Mickey Mouse “Mickey’s Choo-Choo” © 1929 – The Walt Disney Co. All rights reserved.

2. Mickey Mouse

Mickey is not the most dynamic mouse on this list. He is dating Minnie Mouse and he plays fetch with his dog Pluto. He has been the leading star of many remakes of stories such as “Jack and the Beanstalk” or “The Prince and the Pauper.” But way back when… he was THE star when it came to animation. Mickey is a trailblazer and an animation legend.

Let’s face it, Mickey is the cornerstone of the Disney Franchise. From the Mickey Mouse Club to Disney World, Mickey was the building block for the Disney Empire.

No, he does not have the comic genius or emotional depth as other mice… but he’s Mickey Mouse. Seriously… He’s the iconic logo for Disney.

… AND THE NUMBER ONE ANIMATED MOUSE IS…

1. Fievel Mousekewitz

Journeying by ship from Russia to turn-of-the-century America, Fievel is lost at sea during a ferocious storm. Washing ashore in New York Harbor, Fievel braves the perils and wonders of a strange new world in a thrilling quest to find his family. Don Bluth did an excellent job in bringing Fievel to life.

Make arguments for other mice if you want, none will be as cute or have as much depth as Fievel.

So what do you think? Who was ranked higher than you think they should be? Who is missing from the top ten? Who should not be in the top ten? Leave comments below and share with others!

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!

Science The Sh*t Out Of This

Sleeping is giving in

Look at this sad, sad man on this sad, sad, planet Look at this sad, sad man on this sad, sad, planet

I recently stayed up all night finishing The Martian by Andy Weir, a book about how a man, Mark Watney, gets trapped on Mars and his quest to survive and return to Earth. It was an excellent book and a unique read; not many science fiction books flat out explain to science and reasoning behind their ideas or plot points. But every single turn, Weir gave the readers a detailed account  of Watney’s survival and rescue. We are given a layman’s explanation, which only draws us more deeply into the story, as we can mentally work through the problems Watney faces with him.

Basically it’s a book about how to science your way off of Mars after you’ve been stranded there. And it’s awesome. I’ve talked about my love of Space on this blog before (remember this?). Space – it’s…

Top 5 Female Action-Heroes (movies)

With Terminator Genisys (2015) coming out soon, my first thought was “why” are we getting another Terminator movie? It’s not that I didn’t enjoy the first two movies, but I am somewhat critical of all timeline story angles. Stories that involve altering timelines are always problematic because of temporal paradoxes.

However, the release of Terminator also reminded me of Sarah Connor. Clearly Sarah Connor is an amazing action-hero, and one of the few really good female action-heroes. Sarah Connor is one of the women I think about whenever I try to create women action-heroes.

So, that got me pondering. Who are the greatest female action-heroes of all time? I tried to limit it to live-action origin, or first visual was in a live-action film. This eliminates cartoons, video games, and comic books. With that said, let me give a nod to Wonder-Woman… without a doubt the greatest fictional female hero of all time. In addition, Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft is perfection. However… the Lara Croft films, which had video game origins, needed better writers and better directors.

Below are my top 5 female action heroes, but feel free to add others in the comments.

5.) Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games trilogy

She came from District 12, a poor coal mining district, and survived the very dangerous and very political Hunger Games… a televised fight to the death.

4.) Trinity, The Matrix trilogy

In a world dominated by machines, Trinity is one of the top soldiers in humanity’s fight against the machines. She is clearly a soldier who shoes little fear in the face of overwhelming odds.

3.) Sarah Connor, The Terminator series

She fought the T100 and the T1000 when the life of her son was put in jeopardy by the time-traveling assassins. Instead of running away, she ran toward the danger to save her son… and to save the future of humanity. Probably the most noble of all the women on this list… and her action sequences were believable.

2.) The Bride, Kill Bill Volume 1 and 2

The Bride is rated higher than Sarah Connor because she did action-scenes, and combat, in a way equal to the greatest male action-heroes. Sarah Connor may have done action that was more believable… but let’s be honest, the greatest male action-heroes do lots of stuff which pushes our ability to suspend disbelief. On this list it is quite a feat to rate higher than an action icon like Sarah Connor.

Jumping, slicing, and fighting her way until she finally finds Bill… The Bride is a powerful action-heroine.

1.) Ellen Ripley, The Alien Series

I base this on Alien and Aliens, the first two movies of the Aliens franchise which were both really good. The acid bleeding aliens killed Ripley’s friends, and the aliens killed the Marines… but Ripley killed the aliens. The thing that separates Ripley and Sarah Connor from the Bride, is that Sarah Connor and Ripley feel iconic… whereas the Bride just doesn’t feel iconic to me.

So that’s my list. The top three were separated by tiny details, and on another day the top three might be in a different order. So what are your thoughts?
