People May Be Using Animals found on Craigslist for Target Practice

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about animals being used as target practice to contact them.

According to KMTR: “A group of people in Marion County may be using Craigslist to find pets that they then use for target practice, police said. The group responds to “free domestic animals to good homes” postings according to Don Thomson of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The pets–specifically cats–are then reportedly used for shooting practice.”

Oregon has a notoriously high cat population. Even if this is some type of backlash/panic related to the plague that was contracted from a cat bite, using animals as target practice is disgusting.

Please contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office if you have any information which can stop the people who are allegedly using animals as target practice.

Are too many young people going to college?

A college education was once regarded as a first-class ticket to a better life.

But the rising costs of higher education, the burden of student loans and a less-certain job market have left many wondering: Are too many young people going to college?” — SOURCE: Wall Street Journal

College education is very important, but with the current tuition rates it appears to be a financial liability that outweighs the financial benefits. What do you think?

Beware of Red Cross Scam

Hurray for capitalism!

A southern Colorado Springs neighborhood was hit by scammers Thursday afternoon.

Angie, a resident in the area, said she opened her garage door, and the two teenage boys approached her.

According to Angie, the boys said they were with the Red Cross and were collecting cash for the Waldo Canyon fire victims. To which Angie responded, “oh yeah?”

The Red Cross has set up multiple shelters across the region to help residents evacuated by the Waldo Canyon fire. And now it seems that impersonators are capitalizing on the organization’s good name, trying to swindle people up and down the Front Range by soliciting donations.

“We’re getting numerous emails and phone calls from citizens saying they’re getting these phone calls, and obviously they’re just scams,” said Carol O’Dell, CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado.

“They’re saying they’re going to fund the Red Cross. Right. They’re funding their own pocket,” O’Dell said angrily.

O’Dell said they’ve heard from citizens who say they’ve gotten both automated calls and from live people. Sallie McInnis, in Pueblo, got a robo-call Thursday morning from an unlisted phone number in Albuquerque, New Mexico, asking for her credit card number. Gazette, Colorado Springs

Earth Day 2012 – Oregon

2 Peter 3:10-13

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

I believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins. I believe Jesus will return someday. When that day comes a lot of things will change… including the earth. However, I will not passively sit by while the planet is ruined by recklessness. If you believe climate change is crap, then at least consider pollution as a problem on this Earth Day 2012.

Politicians are notorious for trading jobs for votes… even when those jobs bring polluting factories.

Maybe something realistic you can do to help the environment is change how you get to work. A hybrid is not financially feasible for many people. But other changes in lifestyle can be made. Many people drive to work when they could bike or walk.

I encourage you to educate yourself about the challenges the planet is currently facing and things you can do to make a positive impact.

Frequent Flyer Miles

Anyone have experience in transferring Frequent Flyer Miles from one person to another?

My research is a comparison of poverty in the United States and other countries. Using frequent flyer miles would certainly help offset the cost of the research.
